Debe Branning

Transplanted from the Midwest, Debe has been fascinated with cemeteries, cemetery art, and gravestone design for years. She orchestrates and leads historic cemetery tours at the Pioneer Military and Memorial Park, re-creating the life (and death) stories of the inhabitants of this little “town.” Residents include early Arizona pioneers, as well as Arizona government officials and lawmen, down to ladies of the night and outlaws. She believes in the importance of maintaining Arizona history and honoring these early settlers by preserving their gravesites. She is passionate about creating cemetery awareness, and always ready for a fundraiser. She is the author of 7 books, including The Graveyard Shift: Arizona’s Historic and Haunted Cemeteries.  Debe is a committee member for the Grave Marker Preservation Project at the Pioneer Military and Memorial Park since 2014.  She is a member of the Board of Directors for Pioneers’ Cemetery Association, Arizona Genealogy Advisory Board, and one of the co-chairs of the Arizona Chapter of the Association for Gravestone Studies.
