The State Historic Preservation Office, a division of Arizona State Parks and Trails is the primary driver of this professional development training program for those involved in historic preservation, cultural resource management, and general preservation of our state’s non-renewable, cultural heritage resources. For 2018, Full Conference Packages include: Registration, all conference communication, all conference materials, access to all sessions (unless otherwise noted or an additional charge is required), admission to the Pre-Conference Social Networking Event, Welcome Reception, admission to the Governor’s Awards Reception and Presentation, and admission to all Keynote Speakers. Partial Conference Packages or “a la carte” options are available on the Registration Page. If you choose to come for one full day (Thursday or Friday), then all elements listed above for that day are included in the package. Admission to the Pre-Conference Workshops / Training Sessions are also included in your Full Conference package unless otherwise noted.  We are not able to split registrations between two or more people. Each registration is unique to the individual who registered for the conference. We appreciate your understanding.

Upgrading your selected package may be accomplished at any time, even after you have registered. Just contact questions@azpreservation.com or Dave Ryder @ Veer Consulting 602-568-6277 for quick assistance. Travel and accommodations are not included in the conference registration packages.

Remember, some sponsors and financial partner packages also include complimentary admission for up to ten (10) registrations. It may be advantageous for your organization to consider a sponsorship and receive complimentary registrations. It’s very easy.

June 6-8, 2018 (Wednesday through Friday).  Be sure to arrive at the Hotel Valley Ho in Scottsdale the night before if you are attending early morning sessions.  Also consider staying over the weekend. The discounted hotel conference rate is available 3 days before and three days after the conference.

Advocacy groups, tribal leaders, state and local government leaders, business owners, entrepreneurs, legislators, archaeologists, architects, cultural resource managers, city planners, developers, historic preservation enthusiasts, students, lecturers, authors, professors, homeowners, historic preservation commissioners, non-profit organizations, museum administrators, archivists, energy experts and leaders, contractors, private consultants in historic preservation, and countless others who understand the value of adaptive reuse, sustainability, and the importance of preserving sites and culturally significant resources for future generations.

Local, domestic, and international speakers are often our keynote speakers, presenters, and session leaders at the conference. Many of the speakers are entrepreneurs, authors, lecturers, and leaders in the historic preservation industry and community. Some speakers come from as far away as Western Europe, Great Britain, Canada, and as close as neighboring towns and cities within Arizona itself. Our hope is to encourage more global educational outreach with this conference and build awareness of the great work we are doing in Arizona and the Southwest to preserve buildings, sites, and cultural places.

We have seen small business owners and major corporate and public entities participate as our conference partners and sponsors. Typically, these participants are directly involved in historic preservation or in some way support the historic preservation efforts. They are organizations who derive some political or commercial benefit from being well represented at the conference and most are repeat planning or financial partners that we welcome back each year. We also welcome non-profit partners including museums, colleges, universities, municipalities, preservation-related non-profit affiliations, and many more.

A preliminary agenda is posted as soon as a good portion of it is completed sometime in mid-February.  We will send out an email and post the notice on our Facebook page and Twitter account (@AZPreservation) when the agenda is available for review before the conference.

Yes, we will have at least one bookseller present at the 2018 conference.

Please visit the Session Submission page of this website for instructions and to submit your proposal online in mid-October 2017.  Sessions may be submitted until early November, 2017.   If you still have questions, please contact questions@azpreservation.com for assistance. All presentation and session proposal submissions are processed through this website. No emails, faxes, or hard copy presentations will be accepted.  All session submissions will be asked to verify and confirm copyright ownership of the submitters.

The 2018 conference will be a bit different in that we will offer a Virtual Exhibitor opportunity due to space limitations at the conference venue. Virtual Exhibitors will enjoy the benefit of having their materials placed on our conference website as soon as the sponsorship or exhibitor request is submitted and paid. Sponsors of any level will receive the Virtual Exhibitor opportunity to place PDFs of material on the website – a virtual brochure of sorts. Unlike previous years, this year’s conference will not have physical exhibit tables available on site but sponsors and virtual exhibitors may place a promotional item in the conference bags for all attendees.

Governor’s Award nominations for awards in archaeology and historic preservation are accepted in the Spring prior to the conference. Nomination forms and instructions for submission will be available on our conference website www.azpreservation.com beginning in February, 2018. Registration FAQ

Visit the Agenda page of the www.azpreservation.com website for more information. The agenda is typically available in its entirety approximately 30 days prior to the conference. Earlier versions may appear on this page but are subject to change until 30 days prior to the conference.

No. The conference will pay for 2 days’ self-parking charges on your behalf so it is free to self-park at the Hotel Valley Ho during the conference. If you choose to Valet, you will incur these charges personally. For those staying overnight at the hotel, we will validate your parking beginning Wednesday night, June 6 through Friday afternoon, June 8. Any parking charges for arrivals or departures after those dates will be your responsibility. For those coming for the conference each day and not staying overnight at the hotel, the conference will validate your parking at the registration desk. The precise validation system may change but you will not be required to pay for self-parking for the days you attend sessions at the conference. These arrangements are only valid in the self-parking garage at the Hotel Valley Ho. If you park in other paid-parking lots in the vicinity, you will be responsible for those charges. Additional, free self-parking on the street may be available but is very limited. As always, parking is very limited at the conference venue so we encourage you to carpool with colleagues whenever possible.

No. The registration cost for the conference is separate from the cost of your accommodations. To economize, we often encourage participants to consider finding a roommate within their professional affiliations, company or organization, or even among family members. This year the rate is $91.00 per room per night at the Hotel Valley Ho in Scottsdale. Please visit the Accommodations page of the website for more information.

The conference has been fortunate to retain the same registration costs for the past several years without an increase due to the generosity of our sponsors and partners.  Cost for registration depends upon the time of year that you register.  Early registration discounts are available between January and March.  We encourage everyone to register early for the great cost savings. Yes, but we always encourage preservation enthusiasts to register early to take advantage of discounts available and to ensure that on-site registrants will receive the proper conference materials included in the package. We are able to register on-site and can even accept credit cards on-site for payment. On-site registration rates are significantly higher than pre-conference registration rates.

Due to the nature of the conference packages, we are unable to offer special discounts at this time other than our early registration discounts.

Yes, you will see the confirmation of your registration prior to submitting payment. Upon completion of all required fields on the registration page, you will then select the method of payment and continue. The system will offer a reconfirmation of all your selections before moving to the payment page. If you have difficulties or questions, please contact questions@azpreservation.com for assistance.

Please indicate this information on the registration form in the appropriate comment section Other Needs. Dietary restrictions are gladly accepted but due to the limitations of the conference facilities and off-site event food preparation, we may be unable to accommodate these requests. We appreciate your understanding. Any special needs pertaining to mobility impairment or other physical limitations for conference events or related activities may be included in the same comment section and we will forward the information to the Hotel Valley Ho in Scottsdale. We will make every effort to accommodate these needs.

You will proceed through the registration process as normal and select the “pay by purchase order” option. When you make this selection, a secondary screen will appear that is essentially a confirmation of your registration that you may use to submit with your request for a purchase order. Your information will already be in the database as a registered participant and the conference management staff will submit an invoice to the proper State of Arizona agency for payment against the purchase order. All purchase orders must be received by April 1, 2018 and all purchase order invoices must be paid by June 1, 2018 to confirm participation in the conference. Please email a copy of your registration confirmation along with a copy of your official purchase order to questions@azpreservation.com. Be sure to indicate the name(s) of the participant(s) on the purchase order so it is processed properly by our conference managers. If your payment is not received by June 1, 2018, your registration is subject to cancellation unless specific arrangements for post-conference payment has been approved by conference management.

Please proceed through the registration process and select the “pay by check” option. When you make this selection, a secondary screen will appear that is essentially a confirmation of your registration that you may use to submit with your check. The system will ask you to include the name and address of the person to whom we should submit an invoice. If you are not responsible for processing payment, please send include the name and address of the Procurement or Accounting Officer who will process the payment. The person indicated as the responsible payment party will receive an invoice with all information regarding the registrant’s name, confirmation number, and total amount due.

Please proceed through the registration process and select the “pay by credit card” option. The conference website will automatically direct you to a secure merchant payment system that will accept Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. Please fill in all required information. You will receive an email confirming receipt of your payment into the system, along with a confirmation email of your registration from the conference management team. IMPORTANT: The name on your credit card statement will say “Veer Consulting LLC.” It will not say Arizona Historic Preservation Conference. Please make a note of it. If you have questions, we encourage you to contact Veer Consulting, LLC at 602-568-6277 or questions@azpreservation.com.

Yes. The registration system leads into the credit card processing system that will issue you an automatic receipt that will be sent to you via email, reconfirming the total dollar charged to your card. Note that the name on the statement for this conference will read “Veer Consulting LLC” and this will be reiterated on your emailed receipt. If you require additional assistance or this email receipt is insufficient, please contact questions@azpreservation.com.

Please do not re-register through the online system. We ask you to contact the conference manager at questions@azpreservation.com, or call 602-568-6277 for assistance.

Yes. The complete list of packages and prices will be available on this website before you begin filling in the required fields to register. You can find it under the 2018 Documents page under the Agenda page.

Cancellations are accepted until 30 days prior to the conference (or May 6, 2018) and you may receive a refund through the same method of payment you used at the time of registration. After that date, no refunds are available; however, we are happy to extend the courtesy of accepting substitutions in your place. If you know a fellow preservation enthusiast who would like to attend in your place, please contact the conference manager at questions@azpreservation.com for assistance. Be sure to remember to contact the Hotel Valley Ho in Scottsdale to modify your accommodations reservations for the person taking your place at the conference. Changing your conference registration status with the conference management team does not alter your hotel accommodations and if you forget to change your reservations, you will be charged for at least one night’s stay. Note that we are not able to split registrations between two different persons. Each registration is unique to the one person who registered. We appreciate your understanding.
