Vivia Hammontree Strang was raised in Phoenix, Arizona. Her family came to the Valley in 1910 and probably wouldn’t even recognize the place today. She is a former Arizona State employee who retired two years ago, after 14 years with the Arizona Game & Fish Department and 15 years with Arizona State Parks – part of the time as the National Register Coordinator for Arizona. For the past two years she has served as President of the Pioneers’ Cemetery Association. It helps fill two passions – a love of history and preservation of the past – least we forget where we came from and the people who brought us here.
